About
Fons is an experienced interior architect and furniture designer with a holistic view of the design questions presented to him. His study in Denmark and an ongoing interest in techniques, materials as well as social developments are the basis for surprisingly clear solutions with a contemporary visual language in his architecture, interiors and furniture designs.
Spaces where people live and/or work should feel good and move with the user’s life cycle. The Scandinavian approach to use of space, materials, light and the human scale are strongly felt in Fons’ designs.
Having studied in Maastricht and Copenhagen, Fons has since gained experience in a broad field of work. He has created designs for major retail projects, such as the interior design of the shops of De BIJENKORF, the concept designed for HEMA International, for PHILIPS LAC and the concept ‘De Ontmoeting’ for the bank shops and offices of RABOBANK. Local multichannel retail such as POLLMANN since 1890 in the 7straatjes, and WITTEVEEN MENSTORE in the Bakkerstraat. Both owners are young, committed retailers who really want to and can make a difference. We like to help entrepreneurs achieve their goals with our vision and experience.
Revitalising and transforming office buildings and residential properties are also an important part of the workfield. Like the transformation of a former arms depot at the Saksen Weimar Kazerne into a bright open office for JEEN in Arnhem, and the interweaving of two large monumental city buildings into one contemporary office for BRUNET ADVOCATEN in Nijmegen. Both projects are an easy-to-read fusion of existing and new. HOUSE PARKSTAD, a former city farm, is a clear example of transformation and revitalisation. A residence that can move with the life stage of its owners and its desired use.
For all his interiors, Fons designs furniture. But he also designs autonomous products, often crafted or produced in limited editions. His first furniture design was included in the well-known chair collection of the TU-Delft.
Fons has shared his knowledge with interior architecture students as a lecturer at various master programmes and has been a board member of the BNI, Beroepsvereniging Nederlandse Interieurarchitecten, in Amsterdam.
Characteristic of Fons Kooymans’ designs is that all sizes are divisible by 7.
Personal contact, cooperation, teamwork – this is how we like to do things. We work from an attractive monumental building in Arnhem with a small core team. Depending on the design task, we involve additional disciplines to achieve the optimal result together with our clients.
